Dive Brief:
- Alma on Wednesday announced its acquisition of K-12 data integration firm Always Prepped, Inc.
- The deal will bring more robust data analytics to the Portland, OR-based all-in-one student information and learning management system.
- Always Prepped CEO Fahad Hassan will also join Alma in its Washington, DC, office, which opened last year.
Dive Insight:
Always Prepped, which was based in Chevy Chase, MD, organized student classroom performance, attendance, and behavior metrics in a single platform. Its purchase is a huge gain as Alma works to further strengthen its platform, which is currently has school clients in 37 states and 24 countries.
Still, with a greater emphasis on data will likely come more questions regarding security. A number of ed tech firms have faced scrutiny in recent years over their data storage and safeguards, so Alma will certainly need to stay on top of its messaging on that front as it continues to expand both its offerings and client base.
