Dive Brief:
- Used in over half of the 250 largest K-12 districts in the U.S. and 2,400 colleges and universities, Amazon's Whispercast is hoping to make an even bigger splash with a new round of updates announced today.
- Version 3.0 allows educators to purchase digital content from the Kindle Store and Amazon App Store with a credit card and also gives teacher more control over the content they are using.
- Amazon is also giving Whispercast users free "Digital Transition Services," which the less lingo-savvy know as "tech support."
Dive Insight:
Whispercast was launched in fall 2012 and helps educators centralize content, as well as easily share tools digitally. Is Amazon trying to take a bite out of Apple and Google's ed tech market share? Perhaps. Whispercast is connected to Amazon's Kindle, which, compared to the iPad, is likely a more affordable tablet option for many schools.
