Dive Insight:
The decision to broaden from just iOS devices highlights the bigger trend of increasing hardware diversity in schools.
In October 2013, Apple announced its most successful quarter in education sales: it had raked in more than $1 billion and iPads made up 94% of the tablet market share. The times, however, may be changing. Los Angeles Unified School District's 1:1 iPad initiative completely caved on itself, and a deal signed in November between New York City's Department of Education and Google is set to bring Acer and Samsung's Google-powered Chromebooks, as well as Google Apps for Education, to the city's schools. Chromebooks have since surpassed the iPad in terms of market share.
