Dive Brief:
- To mark Pi Day (which this year takes place on Saturday, March 14), Discovery Education is hosting a virtual field trip to the National Institute of Standards and Technology Friday to get students excited about the magic of 3.14159.
- Students will get to e-meet mathematicians and scientists from the institute and hear about the practical applications of pi.
- Registration is still open for the 30-minute e-trip and classrooms can also submit questions in advance.
Dive Insight:
The trip includes a behind-the-scenes tour of NIST, including its nanotechnology section, 3D lab, fire research division, and underground labs. Students will also hear from experts about how pi and math relate to everything from cars to skyscrapers.
This is a perfect example of how tech can benefit a classroom — without paying a dime or leaving campus, students are getting to have a real-world experience that can inform how they look at the world.
