This week, Education Dive took a closer look at a Bill and Gates Foundation report calling for stronger data infrastructure in higher ed. The "Answering the Call" report revealed that the foundation has established a new working group focused on strengthening institutional, state, and national systems while increasing the flow of information between them.
Also in higher ed, MIT professor and graduate education dean Christine Ortiz plans to launch a new residential research university under a projected-based learning model that will shun lectures and the traditional degree system. Additionally, Pearson reportedly plans to exit the increasingly crowded learning management system space within the next three years.
And in K-12 news, President Barack Obama has proposed $4 billion to support computer science education in his 2017 budget, calling on the National Science Foundation and the Corporation for National and Community Service to spend around $135 million on related teacher training.
