Dive Brief:
- Google on Tuesday unveiled Drive for Education, which will allow unlimited storage — as long as you don't have any individual files larger than 5 TB.
- Prior to this announcement, Apps for Education accounts were limited to 30GB of free space.
- Drive for Education is free (of charge and of ads) for all non-profit educational institutions.
Dive Insight:
While 30GB of free space was probably enough for most students, better safe than sorry. And, according to Tech Crunch, storage space prices are "trending to zero anyway," though they're not quite there yet. Google Drive for Work — the non-education equivalent with premium storage space — costs $10 a month, by comparison.
The rollout will reportedly take a few weeks before all Apps for Education users have access.
