Dive Brief:
- On Tuesday, Google launched a mobile app for its relatively new Classroom learning management system.
- The app, which is available on Android and iOS, allows users to access Classroom without opening a browser. It also allows for offline caching, which means students can work offline.
- In addition to releasing the mobile app, Google has updated the Classroom LMS by adding a teacher assignment page where educators can access assignments, check which ones they have already reviewed, and see which students have completed their homework.
Dive Insight:
With Google's Classroom LMS, educators can assign, collect, grade, and return assignments all from the comfort of their Chromebook (or other device). Students each have an assignments page, where they can see what is due, and once they are done with their tasks, all of their work is filed into appropriate folders via Google Drive.
The LMS was announced in May, when Google rolled out a number of special invitations for educators to test the beta version. It was fully launched in August and upgraded in October with Google Groups integration. It definitely looks like Google is moving fast with this one as it moves to take a bigger bite out of Apple's share of the ed-tech pie.
