Dive Brief:
- Hackers have infiltrated the Indiana Department of Education's website for the second time this week.
- This time around, a message was left on the site that read, "SUPRISED (sic) WE ARE HERE AGAIAN (sic)??? THE LAST TIME THIS SITE WAS DOWN NO PATCH WAS DONE."
- After the site went down the first time, the department claimed it was working to create a patch that would stop future hackers — but that clearly wasn't successful.
Dive Insight:
Of course, the question after this sort of event is, "What about the data?" According to the IDOE, no data was compromised. The issue does, however, highlight the overall vulnerability of all student files. One thing that is definitely clear: Indiana needs to brush up on its tech features. The state also had massive technical glitches during testing last spring. While these are clearly two very different issues, it's not a good thing if such events make Indiana's Department of Education synonymous with tech malfunction.
