Dive Brief:
- Instructure on Wednesday unveiled new suite of tech tools designed to facilitate "lossless learning" in the Canvas learning management system, which is used in both K-12 and higher ed.
- Two mobile apps are among the new releases — one of which, MagicMarker, is designed to help instructors easily log and measure student responses with a swipe left or right to indicate a correct or incorrect response.
- The other app, Canvas Polls, allows instructors to poll or quiz students, who can then use their iOS or Android devices as a clicker device to respond.
Dive Insight:
The new products debuted at Instructure's annual user conference, InstructureCon, in Park City, UT, and will be available for free to Canvas' 13-million educator user base at 800 colleges, universities, and K-12 districts. They'll be widely available on June 25.
As mentioned above, the two apps and other upgrades are meant to facilitate a "lossless learning" environment — one where no learning data is lost in the classroom. The "lossless" phrase is borrowed from the digital storage world, where it means that no data is lost when files are compressed or transferred.
