Dive Brief:
- Instructure revealed Tuesday at SXSWedu a new partnership with Pearson that will see the PowerSchool student information system integrated in its Canvas LMS for K-12 schools.
- The move is an effort to save teachers time that might otherwise be spent entering duplicate data in each system, according to a release.
- Additionally, schools will instantly be able to move information from PowerSchool to Canvas, getting their accounts off the ground that much quicker.
Dive Insight:
This is a big deal for both Instructure and Pearson, especially considering that PowerSchool is the most widely used student information system and was already being used by a majority of the cloud-based LMS provider's customers.
Still, one question remains here: How might Pearson's potential sale of PowerSchool affect the deal? The company is said to be considering several bidders to buy the SIS, one of which has been rumored to be Blackboard, another LMS provider. Could Instructure also be in the running?
