Dive Brief:
- Intel Education Solutions on Wednesday at Bett 2014 debuted the new Education Tablet and classmate PC.
- Both devices are built specifically for education and are durable — capable of withstanding 70 cm drops from desks, as well as being water- and dust-resistant.
- Included on the devices are the Intel Education Software eLearning suite, which includes the Kno app. Intel acquired Kno in November.
Dive Insight:
It was only a matter of time before Intel put its recent Kno acquisition to good use. The computing giant is releasing these two devices into a crowded market dominated by Apple's iPad, but it's also a market with room for affordable and durable alternatives. Let's face it: The iPad isn't cheap, and hiccups like those experienced by the Los Angeles Unified School District have left some with a bad taste. With the right push (and the right early adopters), a more cost-effective, durable option could catch on — especially if it proves itself with results.
