- Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds signed into law a few notable education funding bills, which, combined, allocate about $90 million to K-12 education in the state. One of these bills also increases the state's per-pupil spending by about 2.3%.
- Advocates of homeschooling are opposing a bill that would require districts to conduct health and safety visits for families who homeschool their kids.

- The Iowa General Assembly began its 2019 legislative session on Jan. 14. Legislators have said a major priority of the body is to increase K-12 education funding and improve the mental health system, including for kids.
