Dive Brief:
- Matific, a program that gamifies math for K-6 students, just scored $12 million in a Series A round of funding.
- The program, developed by Israeli company Slate Science, is currently used by 15,000 teachers — 10,000 of which are in the US.
- The program is available in seven languages and can be accessed by web or mobile app. It is currently free for schools but costs parents $35 a year to access for their child at home.
Dive Insight:
“Matific appeals to children’s love of playing games. By making math interactive and hands-on, children learn the important fundamentals and enjoy the process of learning more. We’re proud of the product we’ve made and even more proud of the children who are learning because of it,” Slate Science CEO Guy Vardi explained in a statement.
There is word that the company now plans to expand to Asia and South America.
GeekTime brings up the good point that Matific hits on two popular trends right now: It focuses on a STEM subject, which is all the rage these days, and gamifies it.
