Dive Brief:
- The application for fiscal 2015 E-Rate funding has been extended by three weeks to meet the demands of some of the nation's largest school districts.
- Schools now have till 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, April 16 to submit their FCC Form 471 application.
- The extension will not hold up funding or when schools find out if they have been approved.
Dive Insight:
The E-Rate program allows schools and libraries to get reduced prices for WiFi and broadband connections. President Barack Obama's ConnectEd Initiative, which wants to see high-speed Internet in 99% of U.S. schools by 2017, has made the need for the program all the more clear.
Often, schools may want or need technology, but don't necessarily have the resources or funds to get it. Applying for a subsidy is a great and easy way to connect a district to "the future."
