Dive Brief:
- Persistent computer glitches interrupted Oklahoma's standardized tests for the second year in a row.
- Freezing and slow computers motivated State Superintendent Janet Barresi to ask test vendor CTB/McGraw-Hill to postpone testing Monday.
- A similar issue happened in Oklahoma last year, which also resulted in a brief suspension of the test.
Dive Insight:
According to CTB/McGraw-Hill, the Oklahoma issues were caused by "a network service interruption" and the testing company was able to fix the issue within three hours. Still, the problem points to larger issues with testing online. Florida is also experiencing issues with online testing this week, and Kansas went through a similar ordeal last month.
It was announced this week that NAEP tests will be taken with rented tablets to ensure all schools have the same quality of technology. While this is a rather expensive endeavor, it will help ensure standardization of tech access.
