Being technologically relevant and engaging is important to PBS. PBS LearningMedia Vice President Alicia Levi is quoted in the press release as saying that the additions “will allow [teachers] to flip their classrooms, encourage student creativity, and build inspiring lesson plans throughout this new school year.”
With the press release, PBS LearningMedia also included a list of important classroom tips. While the advice naturally supports the new tools, that doesn't mean they should just be brushed aside as marketing. One tip, "Allow students to become creators," is so important and so often forgotten in classrooms. It's not uncommon to hear about "uninspiring" teachers just lecturing to students, and PBS' solution to this problem is the new
website, where students are empowered to navigate their own learning trajectory. Students 13 and older, for example, can use the site's Digital Story Board to show their mastery of the content.
