Dive Brief:
- Remind unveiled version 4.2 of its mobile messaging app for teachers, students, and parents on Thursday, bringing with it a new "Stamps" feature.
- According to a release, the Stamps feature allows real-time feedback, allowing, for example, teachers to question or quiz students, keep track of attendance on trips, or take votes. Additionally, messages can now be "starred" by students and parents.
- Four stamps are available to users: A star, a green check, a red X, and a purple question mark.
Dive Insight:
Remind's secure messaging app has become extremely popular since its launch as Remind101 in 2011. Its users currently include over 1 million teachers and 17 million students and parents, with 365,000 new signups daily and a No. 1 spot in the education category on both iOS and Google Play. The app was developed in close collaboration with teachers, allowing them to communicate with students and parents without having to exchange phone numbers — something that could easily attract scrutiny. This most recent addition of Stamps (aside from the uses mentioned above) further clarifies communication by also allowing the recipient to easily indicate they've received a message or that they don't understand.
