Dive Brief:
- Triumph Learning, a provider of K-12 curriculum and interactive tools, has launched a $5 million grant competition that will award between $10,000 and $50,000 to winning districts, funding the use of its personalized practice tool, Waggle, as well as professional development and hands-on implementation.
- Some of the grants may stretch for multiple years.
- The grant comes as the company also rolls out a new version of Waggle made specifically for Texas, which it is billing as "the first state-specific smart practice solution."
Dive Insight:
While basically anything funded for a classroom is awesome — and the grants ultimately work as good promotion and advertising for Triumph — the general premise of the competition shows some of the flaws in education speak these days. Despite reading the description of Texas Waggle three times, the term "state-specific smart practice solution" doesn't actually say much. Triumph is not alone, as many companies fall victim to edu-speak, which can sometimes just sound like gibberish. The same way we want out students to be clear and concise when they write or speak, education companies should aim to do the same.
