• Utah Gov. Gary Herbert on Monday joined students at the state's capitol building to mark the beginning of Computer Science Education Week with an hour of coding activities.
• Herbert is a proponent of STEM and computer science education, and he has partnered with the Utah Technology Council and Pluralsight for support on the state's participation in Code.org's "Hour of Code."
• Computer Science Education Week also became "official" in the state with Herbert's signing of a public declaration making it so.

This year mark's Code.org's second annual Hour of Code, an initiative it launched to encourage students to take part in at least an hour of computer science education. The effort has seen support from politicians, tech executives, celebrities, athletes, and others, who have all participated in videos that encourage students to learn to code. Monday also saw President Barack Obama host his own Hour of Code event at the White House, and on Thursday, Apple Stores will offer complimentary coding workshops to students.
