San Francisco – March 18, 2025 – Research shows that chronic absenteeism — missing 10% or more of the academic year — is leaving third graders unable to read proficiently, sixth graders struggling with coursework and high school students extremely unprepared for postsecondary education. Unfortunately, an estimated 9.4 million students (19%) were chronically absent during the 2023-24 school year.
On Wednesday, March 26, ClassDojo and Attendance Works will host an edLeader Panel on the ways in which educators can create an environment that enhances family engagement and promotes regular attendance. Lorri Hobson, Director of Productive Development, of Attendance Works will share a simple but effective five-step process of caring conversation that allows educational leaders to foster that supportive culture.
Hobson will explain how to use the ClassDojo platform to create meaningful interactions with families, address attendance challenges, and collaboratively develop solutions for long-term student success. Attendees will learn practical strategies, real-world examples, and tools with an emphasis on using concise and impactful communication to build trust and support student success. Hobson will answer attendees’ questions at the end of the edWebinar.
Hobson’s objective at Attendance Works is to create innovative solutions to improve chronic absenteeism. Before becoming Director of Product Development for Attendance Works, she served as Director of ADM/Attendance at the Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMDS) in Ohio. Her leadership extended to legislative advocacy, culminating in the passage of Ohio’s House Bill 410, which decriminalized truancy and mandated attendance intervention plans.
EdWebinar attendees have the option of earning a CE certificate of participation. There is no cost to attend the edWebinars, but registration is required. For more information, please go to https://home.edweb.net/webinar/positive20250326.
